New Technologies: Threats & Advantages
Interested in learning more about AI, IoT, and other cybersecurity buzzwords? Read on below and follow us on social media as we share more throughout Cybersecurity Awareness Month.
Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Official definition: the ability of a digital computer or computer-controlled robot to perform tasks commonly associated with intelligent beings. This includes the ability to reason, discover meaning, generalize, or learn from past experience.
Jeff’s definition: perceiving, learning, reasoning, interacting, ability to answer more than what is specifically being asked.
Blockchain - blocks of data linked into an uneditable, digital chain.
Internet of Things (IoT) - the term IoT, or Internet of Things, refers to the collective network of connected devices and the technology that facilitates communication between devices and the cloud, as well as between the devices themselves.
Machine Learning (ML)
Official definition: Machine Learning is a branch of artificial intelligence that develops algorithms by learning the hidden patterns of the datasets used it to make predictions on new similar type data, without being explicitly programmed for each task.
Jeff’s definition: recognizes patterns in data and meta-data, and automates tasks.
Quantum Computing/Cryptography
Official definition: a multidisciplinary field comprising aspects of computer science, physics, and mathematics that utilizes quantum mechanics to solve complex problems faster than on classical computers.
Jeff’s definition: computers today operate on a binary model, everything is a 0 or 1, processed as + or – voltage. So only two options, Quantum uses Quantum bits, or qubits, which give you many more options. In simple terms, it makes a computer fast enough to possibly decrypt data previously thought to be safely encrypted for many more years.
Zero Trust - no one is trusted by default from inside or outside the network, and verification is required from everyone trying to gain access to resources on the network.
